Mark Byford
Acting Director General
BBC
Broadcasting House
22 March 2004
Dear Mr Byford
Almost a year ago, on 12 March 2003, I
made a complaint to the BBC about remarks in a BBC 4 profile of Saddam Hussein,
broadcast on Sunday 9 March 2003 at 21:40.
I received a reply dated 19 March
2003, which said I should have a response by 16 April. I didn’t.
I received a further reply dated 29
May 2003, which apologised for failing to provide a response.
I eventually received a response dated
13 August 2003. It contained an error of
fact.
I replied on 21 August 2003. When, over a month later, I hadn’t received a
reply of any kind, I wrote again on 27 September 2003.
I received a holding reply on 30
September 2003, saying that the points I made were being looked into. Six months later I am still awaiting a
response.
This is wholly unacceptable.
A copy of each item of correspondence
is attached.
Yours sincerely
David Morrison
